It's just on the Leeds boundary now (or so I believe), but I'm not sure about at that time??But, Lofthouse Park was a POW/Interment camp after its days as an amusement park were over.http://www.twixtaireandcalder.org.uk/cg ... 20camps%20

I lived there untill getting married the name Butcher Hill i was told is becouse many many years ago people were hung drawn and quartered ,and yes they was a P.O.W camp on Butcher Hill ,sorry but i dont know any history about that.

Thats really fascinating, I'd heard there had been a POW camp around Butcher Hill but reading this piece really brings it home to me. I live just off Butcher Hill and hearing about German POWs going to the local churches and working at Woodside Quarry is never something I'd thought about.
