[quotenick="Cardiarms"]Anyway, back to my canopy columns, old but not Wellington Station, but Leeds City first incarnation? They are my favourite loco and the sound of the engines raises the hackles just like a Merlin does on a Spitfire. /quote] My sentiments exactly Cardiarms - and what a splendid comparison you make there. At the completion of a journey at either terminus (I had to do them a lot in those days) I used to walk past the beautiful but modest giants and look at them in awe and admiration. As I said in a post on "Horsforth Signal Box" my favourite for some reason, childish I suppose, was ALYCIDON, and the picture earlier of it (under "Horsforth Signal Box - thank you Yorkiesknob) alongside Armley Road is a real treat for me.

Cardiarms and Blakey should like this Deltic action video, check out the lingering exhaust fumes emitting out of the tunnel long after the train has passedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGpODkfAFh0And here is a good video clip of a veteran Deltic having a race with a HST 125, the Deltic was going to beat that new plastic thing until it gets checked at red signals. The clip is from the cab of the Deltic itself http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... =88sListen to those traction motors begin to howl

If I remember rightly the three Eurostar sets were used on the same diagrams each day and I'm sure I knew what times they left for a a luxury ride to Wakefield. Passengers were warned on the Intercom that if they wished to alight at Wakefield they must walk forward from coaches A & B as the trains were too long for the platform there. I also seemto remember being told by someone "in the know" that the Eurostars were not to be used north of Leeds because they drew too heavily on the power supply ?? Weren't the Eurostars limited to 110mph as well, due to issues betwixt the knitting and the pantograph(s)?

I suppose its safe to say this now, but I once had a good friend (RIP) who was a top link driver on the line, and he once took me in the sheds and inside the cab of a brand new Deltic - I think it had yet to make its first service run but can't be sure. Not being well up on railway matters I can't remember which shed, but would it have been Copley Hill ??

Thanks a million for three magnificent pictures, and in a superb "meaningful" livery too - efficiency and pride ooze from the views. In a World nowadays besotted by zany "designer" colour schemes which mean nothing its refreshing to see such good taste again. I was so upset when the glorious dark blue and red (with gold fleetname) GNER livery was scuppered - but happy now to see the simple but very pleasing and dignified ECML silver grey colours - lets hope they are not superceded !!

I was incharge of the demolition of the old island platform of 3/4 of the old station in the 1980s, platform 1/2 had been removed in the 1970s, all this was for extending the station car park after the railway closed its car park on the old Leeds central station site. track was still left in platform 5/6 for parcel, mail & newspaper trains. Track was lifted out of platform 5 for the multistorey car park.

I hate to spoil the magic but it's from the website Ficticious Liveries. Have a look [although it takes an age to load] some of the photos are great.
