That's quite right Geordie and many hundreds in the Cookridge and Tinshill vicinities took advantage of the offer - they could also have their houses double glazed at the same time. Sorry about that Geordie, just a bit of mischief, no harm intended. Seriously, yes, that offer was made and accepted widely. I asked for that.Yes, I think there was some furore concerning a: the cost of said project to the ratepayers of Leeds, and b: neighbours just outside the catchment area who had to look on enviously as people down the other end of the street got their spanking new windows.

There was indeed a furore and a great deal of real anger. A "workmate" of mine - an awkward little cuss who just loved trouble and arguments - really strung them along for months and declined every size, shape and colour of windows - and finally threw the Teddy out of his pram, refused the offer, and moved house to a property which had already been done - anything to be awkward !!
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
