Not exactly a comedian (or in Leeds) but re statues never looking like who they're of the statue of Harold Wilson in front of Huddersfield station is genuinely good representation of him. Although not having a pipe in his hand must be something to do with those PS [edited for content] again!

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

The statue of Firey Fred has certainly got his bowling action, and his cowlick of hair, but TBH I think the face looks at much like Trueman as the face of Ernie looks like Ernie, i.e. not at all. But it is in bronze at that always looks better.

I was in Skipton yesterday, and went to see Fred's statue. I agree that the facial likeness isn't 100%, but everything else is spot on. It's very dynamic, beautifully sculpted and cast, and makes poor Ernie look very wooden!

I know this thread is about Ernie Wise but I thought I would mention that it is 30 years ago today that his comedy partner Eric Morecambe died aged 58 (May 28th 1984). It's staggering that it is already so long back. This came to my attention in the 'On this day' feature in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

I remember it well - we were in Whitby in Spring Bank Holiday week and I read it in the paper (presumably on the Tuesday). Such a shock at the time, although he had suffered a bad heart attack several years previously. I still watch Morecambe and Wise on Youtube and the occasional compilation programmes on TV, and they still make me laugh out loud!
