I know this thread is about Ernie Wise but I thought I would mention that it is 30 years ago today that his comedy partner Eric Morecambe died aged 58 (May 28th 1984). It's staggering that it is already so long back. This came to my attention in the 'On this day' feature in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

I remember it well - we were in Whitby in Spring Bank Holiday week and I read it in the paper (presumably on the Tuesday). Such a shock at the time, although he had suffered a bad heart attack several years previously. I still watch Morecambe and Wise on Youtube and the occasional compilation programmes on TV, and they still make me laugh out loud!
