That's in keeping with my (?) memory, well lit too.I know I've seen picturesm ight even be hidden elsewhere on SL but can't find a thing - must be some somewhere. But I'm now thinking Phil is right, these do seem out of character for the age - we need someone peropper in there.

I think the chance for anyone else been able to talk Network rail into looking down there has truly gone now, they've allowed it once. I doubt they'll be in any rush to do it again. I don't think we'll see anymore of those pictures again either. A telephone, and shady corridor is our lot methinks!The Y.E.P title 'What lies beneath the City's station' is a good one, what does lie under there? Were non the wiser-we can't see anything lol It is a real shame, because the station is a massive Victorian engineering marvel, I think it should be shared with the City, and a wider audience.

I think we can rule City station out so that would leave Wellington Street as the likely candidate but why a subway on a terminus station ?

Incidentally, regarding the subway that has recently been taken out of use, I wonder how unique it was being built basically as a bridge but accessed as a subway - can't be too many like that about.Bet there were not many people who went down into that subway that realised they were actually crossing a bridge.

I know BigN. i was just showing a picture where you can see the massive void under that part of the station you mentioned.The Subway is still there, you can see it on my picture here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/609290838/There seems to be some confusion i think.The subway is in the concrete beam, and block wall area, The bit with the yellow and black hazard paint, that is the subway floor. This shot is from the dark arches looking at the outside of the subway. You see the grill with the light on? That's actually inside the subway showing it still exists.They didn't demolish it, they blocked it off and laid platform on top, but they didn't take it out. Why should they?They demolished some of the arches in 1967 to fit the subway in, if they take it out, what will hold up the station?
