Someone must have a piccy - I'd like to remember though I do remember there was no way you'd get a baby through that little slot. There was a middle handrail on the exit/entrance stairs on platform 5 which from memory twisted 45% halfway down an another 45% at the bottom. White tiles with a black tiled line also rings a bell. Can't find anything on Leodis

I think the chance for anyone else been able to talk Network rail into looking down there has truly gone now, they've allowed it once. I doubt they'll be in any rush to do it again. I don't think we'll see anymore of those pictures again either. A telephone, and shady corridor is our lot methinks! The Y.E.P title 'What lies beneath the City's station' is a good one, what does lie under there? Were non the wiser-we can't see anything lol It is a real shame, because the station is a massive Victorian engineering marvel, I think it should be shared with the City, and a wider audience.

I'm wondering what era those concrete colums and steel beams are.Would these be the new City station 1967 remodel, or earlier? Phill - thats not the car park area I refer to, I mean the small short stay (think its 30 mins max) very close to the front doors of Weatherspoons, where the taxis turn round. As for the subway that was capped off during the last re-build of City station is it still there ? I have afeeling that it was removed not long after it was closed but until I have a wander through and have a look I am not sure. The subway in the YEP photo is definatly not that one though, it is much older and appears to have a concrete roof, the other one had a wooden roof if memory serves me well.Question is - where exactly is it ? I think we can rule City station out so that would leave Wellington Street as the likely candidate but why a subway on a terminus station ?

Incidentally, regarding the subway that has recently been taken out of use, I wonder how unique it was being built basically as a bridge but accessed as a subway - can't be too many like that about.Bet there were not many people who went down into that subway that realised they were actually crossing a bridge.

I know BigN. i was just showing a picture where you can see the massive void under that part of the station you mentioned. The Subway is still there, you can see it on my picture here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/609290838/There seems to be some confusion i think. The subway is in the concrete beam, and block wall area, The bit with the yellow and black hazard paint, that is the subway floor. This shot is from the dark arches looking at the outside of the subway. You see the grill with the light on? That's actually inside the subway showing it still exists. They didn't demolish it, they blocked it off and laid platform on top, but they didn't take it out. Why should they? They demolished some of the arches in 1967 to fit the subway in, if they take it out, what will hold up the station?
