I've just realised that it would have originally opened onto the old Westgate roundabout and been quite distinctive. This Leodis image answers the question:http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... It was always my understanding, probably wrong, that the pool only had seven lanes instead of the Olympic eight. Anyone else heard that story? I always thought it was a marvellous pool compared to the others we had in Leeds at that time. That said, I think the money it cost could have been better spent on new pools in the suburbs.
Daft I call it - What's for tea Ma?

There is the official story from the responsible councilor officer somewhere here on another related thread, (the same council who the EP report as not knowing). I think you are close to the mark if I remember correctly Johnny.

There's a cracking 1970's photo of the pool and Inner ring road under construction herehttp://snipurl.com/u7izgA classic half cab bus, and original Mod on scooter thrown in for good measure too
My flickr pictures are herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/Because lunacy was the influence for an album. It goes without saying that an album about lunacy will breed a lunatics obsessions with an album - The Dark side of the moon!
