Strange, I clicked on the link after posting & it was OKC@PDear Mr Briggs,The Victorian Society would like to comment on this application:14/01175/L1 3-7 Crown Street, Leeds LS2 7DA(Grade II, late C18, altered C19, C20)Listed Building application for change of use from mixed retail, café/restaurant, take-away and office use to public house and take-away; demolition of two storey rear extension; construction of staircase and lift core; addition of a terrace and balcony tothe ground and first floorsWe discussed this application at length. We decided that the age of the premises warranted a very careful survey and evaluation of existing details of the three individual buildings which formed the group and also that the application should be referredto the Georgian Group as the buildings were originally of their period. The extent of proposed internal alteration, to achieve the desired consistent floor levels through all three buildings, would be irreversible and would seriously damage the integrity of the three buildings. The application was therefore unacceptable and wetherefore object strongly to the scheme.I got back to it from http://tinyurl.com/k5w7bnqEdit - The original link seems to be OK nowhttp://tinyurl.com/qyzz6xn

Fair comment about referring it to the Georgian Society, however, in the light of the surveyors comments when the buildings were asessed for the application ,relating to structural instability due to joists being cut away etc. ;I would have thought any development would be better than it falling down partly ,which seemed to be a probability from the report!

Second link works.English Heritage are broadly in favour and make some good points.I was amused by the comments about the row currently being aesthetically pleasing. They obviously haven't been to look at the hideous paint job on the gable near the road or the amount of eyesores attached to the buildings in the alleyway!

News cover and a permanent plaque or similar giving them credit would be certainly be of value to any business. As I said in my post above any attempt to apply logic, reason or being a good citizen was met with a brick wall of flat refusal. Your welcome to try of course, but don't get your hopes up! I guess it depends how much "advertising" is likely to occur from this proposal. Perhaps we could stir things up with a chat to Phill's YEP contact again? If it becomes bigger news (developers versus Victorian Society, for example) then Dysons may look at it with fresh eyes?

Does anyone have [paid] access to the British Newspaper archive website?I ask because I've found two of the elusive original stories from the YEP, that were published much later than the Radestock article. The tantalising previews I am able to view are from Diary of a Yorkshireman on the dates:1: Wednesday 20th November 1935'... soldiers acre stationed in the Leeds area, and some were billeted the Crown and Fleece Inn which that time faced the Corn Exchange.
