Correct Jane, well done. I wonder if any of the older members here can remember it when the deck was still in place? Here's a picture from Leodis of it just before removal of the catenary, in the 1950's:There are more pictures on Leodis at http://tinyurl.com/yqec2qand more pictures I took yesterday from both sides of the river:http://www.flickr.com/photos/jfjf/sets/ ... 56214346/A very similar bridge still stands at Esholt:More pictures:http://www.flickr.com/photos/jfjf/sets/ ... 310700597/

Well done Jane. The bridge is quite ornate isn't it? Have a look at that one i showed you yesterday on the google image JF. There's another closed bridge a bit further down from Pollard bridge at Horsforth over oil mill goit. the link you added for the flickr page won't work either. I think you need to personalise the flickr address. Do that on your profile section mate

There was talk-a year or two since-of restoring the footbridge.I read it in our local news letter 'Kirkstall Matters'.It was going to be part of a large-scale development of the area. Not for commercial orresidential use, more as an adventure playground with designated footpaths, cycle ways, even a possible miniature railway to link up with Kirkstall Abbey.Personally I'll be happy to see it stay as it is,a small wilderness in the heart of a big city.I've seen deer over there not 50 yards from Kirkstall Road.

There's more details of the Kirkstall Valley Country Park project at this site:http://images.leeds.ac.uk/projects.htmIt's covered as item 10 - this is the website that gave me a clue where to find it. Click on the 'Gott's bridge today' button to get a few pictures similar to the ones I took.I'm not sure how useful it would be to reinstate it, there's probably more useful places that a bridge could be located (something over the canal near the skewed railway bridge would be handy to link Armley to the Warner Village complex, for instance).

I think the idea was to use the existing bridge posts,as shown in the photos. At one time there must have been a footpath leading from Redcote Lane to the footbridge,I would suggest it crossed what is now the sub-station.Incidently,phills highlighted photo is a little further upstream and it features the goit not the river.
