aargh! not known for my patience it's part of Burley Mills iron suspension bridge built by Gott in the early 19th century.

Correct Jane, well done. Well done Jane. The bridge is quite ornate isn't it? Have a look at that one i showed you yesterday on the google image JF. There's another closed bridge a bit further down from Pollard bridge at Horsforth over oil mill goit. the link you added for the flickr page won't work either. I think you need to personalise the flickr address. Do that on your profile section mate

There was talk-a year or two since-of restoring the footbridge.I read it in our local news letter 'Kirkstall Matters'.It was going to be part of a large-scale development of the area.Not for commercial orresidential use,more as an adventure playground with designated footpaths,cycle ways,even a possible miniature railway to link up with Kirkstall Abbey.Personally I'll be happy to see it stay as it is,a small wilderness in the heart of a big city.I've seen deer over there not 50 yards from Kirkstall Road.

There's more details of the Kirkstall Valley Country Park project at this site:http://images.leeds.ac.uk/projects.htmIt's covered as item 10 - this is the website that gave me a clue where to find it. Click on the 'Gott's bridge today' button to get a few pictures similar to the ones I took.I'm not sure how useful it would be to reinstate it, there's probably more useful places that a bridge could be located (something over the canal near the skewed railway bridge would be handy to link Armley to the Warner Village complex, for instance).

I think the idea was to use the existing bridge posts,as shown in the photos.At one time there must have been a footpath leading from Redcote Lane to the footbridge,I would suggest it crossed what is now the sub-station.Incidently,phills highlighted photo is a little further upstream and it features the goit not the river.
