The Kellys Directory from 1902 in Cheshire has a number af adverts advertising various services in Leeds, none of which I believe are in operation today. I am sure someone will correct me if wrong.

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

It's amazing what a bit of Googling can do:The County Fire Office was taken over by Alliance Insurance around about 1970, who merged into Royal Sun Alliance, who have offices at Lawnswood Business Park. Sun Insurance Office, which was one of the oldest insurance companies in the world, are also now part of Royal Sun Alliance, as is Phoenix, which was founded in 1680.Greenwood and Batley survived in various forms until 1987 as part of Hunslet Holdings. Quite a few of their electric locomotives survive, with one of their shunters now based at Kirkstall Abbey Railway.

The address 9 East Parade is now home to the woefully-named OK Karaoke Bar - or it is on the current GSV display anyway.Since it's transformation into - and I am using these next terms or phrases with extreme caution - a place of entertainment, a drinking house or somewhere to indulge in social interaction, it has also been known as the Firehouse.I can see now that at least that made some sense. I even went in once. And like the News of the Screws reporter, I made my excuses and left.
