Rust and corrosion on Leeds Bridge.

I took the photo with this post today (July 8 2013). It shows a rusting and corroding section on the right of Leeds Bridge immediately coming from Swinegate. It may indicate that there is probably also corrosion elsewhere on the bridge (hopefully though not as bad!). I wonder if the NU1, NU½ and NUI Br are some identification (the Br may be bridge). I shall post a closer-up view of the affected area in my next post.

Remember the short lived 'firemen in a boat'' video that briefly appeared on YouTube last year? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-We_eqBzAc4That was Leeds Bridge and as they weren't actually firemen but working on the bridge I'd guess that there is a rolling maintenance programme on the bridge.The bridge is Grade II listed, so as well as all the normal requirements to keep it in a safe condition there will be statutory requirements to preserve it as well.No doubt a story very similar to this will appear in the YEP in the next few days....
