Perhaps there is hope for Stank Hall Barn (reputedly Leeds' oldest building)...http://www.southleedslife.com/stank-hal ... RVcbzuROjY

That row of houses on Hunslet Road has fascinated me for years, not least because of a bit of family history connected to them, but why are they still there ? Are they listed ? If so then why ? They don't seem to be of any architectural importance. They have been in a state of disrepair for decades. I wonder who owns them and if they are council houses then why not raze them and free up that land ? Maybe any new build on the old Tetley site could see them finally knocked down in a move to smarten up the area.

No chance I suppose of the Council persuading the owners of Bridgewater Place to either remove it, or at least fill in the strange "missing teeth" (three I think) which make it look as if the builders are coming back to complete it one day.    I appreciate that we are all entitled to our opinions but I have always thought that it is a blot on the landscape - and to be fair I don't suppose that anyone could have foreseen the lethal "wind tunnel" effect it was to cause.

Yer they wanna knock the Bridgewater / Dalek place down on top of that awful Grove pub that it now towers high above, especially on a night when CAMRA are having a meeting there or Mik Stik-up-his-4rse-tistik is 'performing' !! Ho ho ho! ( Sorry just a small private joke between me and myself) .

Young 'uns that have no interest in the history of the place they grew up in....disgraceful.

Yorkshire Chemicals (YCL) was next to them and the general consensus was that the houses fell within the exclusion zone around the plant, so had been abandoned and left to decay. The much later redevelopment of Clarence / New Dock was held up for quite some time for the same reason.I can't find the thread at the minute, but I'm sure someone might be able to help. Now YCL has closed and the site has been leveled, at a guess they will only stay as they are until the property market picks up, when the whole area (Tetley's and YCL) is set for big things (apparently)

I cycled passed Stank Hall Barn last Sunday and stopped to look at the mess of the old farm house. The old barn has metal temporary security fencing around it. A security man appeared who I got talking to. Apparently the old farm house is due to be demolished after it has now been gutted by fire and is dropping down. He also told me that the footbridge at the back is due to be dismantled also to help keep the vandals away.

Hi phill they might think they have let it go past the point of no return lets face it they have not kept it very secure the yobs have made a right mess inside. Actually, it's worse than that. The Council sold this building to a local businessman several years ago who has simply let it fall into rack and ruin. A crying shame. There's virtually nothing else of the old York Road left - an area that was one of Leeds' key localities. I recall using both the library and the baths myself as a child.
