Am I crediting too much to LCC? Well good point indeed....but it used to get cut regular, before these contractors came along when L.C.C cut the grass themselves

"Councils in the UK are destroying wildlife habitats by cutting grass verges too often, a charity has warned.Plantlife said verges supported hundreds of species of flowering plants and should be cut twice a year.It said three-quarters of councils it surveyed cut them multiple times. It received many calls from people " distraught " about the issue, it added. But the Local Government Association (LGA) said keeping verges shorter was safer for both drivers and pedestrians".Hi Phill, have just seen this on the BBC News.I'm not convinced myself that leaving verges uncut on housing estates does help in this matter as in my experience all I have found uncut verges to contain is dog mess!

They've done round where I live this week - what a mess! There are 'mohican' strips in numerous places across the verges and playing fields, bits that have been started and not finished, and other verges that simply haven't been done at all right next to where they've been working.

I was wondering how they were performing in other areas. I guess they might not be bad if you don't have much grass that's all similar levels. But heck when it's like were I live, it's a joke.I was out in the sisters car yesterday, they'd left loads of grass uncut at the top of the street. They start and just leave it don't they?I saw one strimmer guy do a little bit in one area, leave it and move on. Then 10 mins later another strimmer guy appears and starts doing the grass the other guy had just left. Get some photos and post them here Ravey.

We had the cowboys around again yesterday!Same as usual with non of the sloping grass cut. The vegetation covering the minefield is coming on nicely A very secluded walk these days! The grass is around 2-3 ft high, with bushes as a bonus now growing! A very pretty meadow garden growing, lamp post added for sense of scale.Very old google street view of how things used to look, in the days before Continental grass cutting contractors were paid to not cut the grass around Leeds. Today's comparison shot

It's the "wildflower meadow" to add to the diversity of flora and fauna in your area.Unfortunately Home Farm at Temple Newsham don't do silaging, and the folk at the Lodge think it's not worth coming all that way to cut it.No response from LCC either. Seems they're not going to challenge the contractors for not doing it.
I like work. I can watch it for hours.

Had a trip out yesterday and went past Cottingley Towers. The boulders left on the verges, to prevent illegal parking, have had weed killer sprayed around them. So large rock surrounded by burnt brown grass and then the living grass. Just to save some money strimming around the rocks. The sooner we control our own stuff again the better.
