A drain (?) next to the Seven Arches.

I took this photo today (June 6 2013). It shows a heavy metal lid at what is presumably a drain next to the Seven Arches. I wonder if anyone knows anything about the drain, as I've not been able to see it noted on maps that I've seen. The pumping station (?) is fairly nearby so it may have some connection to that. I was able to slightly open the lid but did not try too hard as I did not want to slip into the muddy ground of unknown depth/quality! If it is a drain then it would need a lot of water inside to force the heavy lid open.

Quite mysteriously the Active Threads currently states for this thread there was a post "By: Leodian On: 09-Jun-2013 14:31" but there is no post and I did not make one as I was not even signed in then (I was in the centre of Leeds) and nobody else has access to my computer, unless someone broke in while I was out and switched the computer on and knew my password! The number of posts though was still the 2 it had been! How very strange!
