What about the environmental impact survey that the developers will have submitted as part of the planning process, which will have had to include the potential downdrafts in the area?Surely the consultants who drew that up will have some responsibility for the tragic events that transpired?Whilst I'm not privy to the exact contents of any such report, I'm fairly sure that it won't have predicted the strength of the winds that now blow around that building. And lets not forget that this phenomenon is hardly unknown or a new issue. It's about time the content of this type of reports and the higly paid consultants who supply them were subject to a lot more scrutiny and, where appropriate, repercussions.

Noticed this week that some new road signs have been put up close to Bridgewater Place:Sorry, don't have pics of the actual signs in situ (bit difficult when driving), but I've seen them on Victoria Road and on Water Lane (presumably there will be one on Neville Street too). It has to be said that the two I've seen aren't brilliantly sited and could be easily missed.Still no news on the outcome of the official enquiry into why it is so windy there and I can't help but feel that this is all a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted...

Report on t'YEP website about plans to address the vortex at BWP:http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 5413070The phenomenon of tall buildings creating their own, often freakish, eco-systems is well known and has been established for decades - certainly long before BWP was planned and built. So, it would seem that the original environmental impact report was, at best, seriously flawed. The issue of who should be paying to sort this whole sorry mess out is between the developer and whoever they engaged to prepare that report. Professional liability insurance exists for exactly this sort of issue and I can't see anyone involved in this sort of project wouldn't have had cover of this sort. It's obscene that the council are being forced to spend almost a quarter of a million quid looking for a solution, and seem to be set to offer an open cheque book for what yet more consultants are going to tell them is needed to solve the problem. The owners of BWP need to accept this is down to them and do whatever is needed to sort it out.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-22722937The BBC reports that the council are set to ban anything over 7.5t crossing Victoria Bridge in order to tackle the problem. Two points....wasn't the lorry involved in the death a 7.5 tonner? I could be wrong but something rings a bell. And, the turning into Water Lane when approaching from the South is after BWP, but before the bridge. Perhaps the low bridge further along there would preclude larger vehicles, but traffic heading West is signposted this way rather than around City Square. This would leave HGV's approaching from the motorways having to cross the Aire on either Crown Point Bridge and track back along the Loop, or access the city centre via the Armley Gyratory / Wellington Street.Signs would be activated redirecting other vulnerable vehicles when the wind dictates it.Still no mention of the company that produced the apparently flawed environmental impact study...how very odd...

I've thought long and hard about this problem. How to ensure that there are no high speed winds at BWP and over the Aire Bridge. Well there is a solution. No wind will be produced and as a bonus the traffic lights will be self powered. My solution...A Wind Turbine... At the Corner of the ASDA car park. An ideal inner city site...
