Who / what is the Canal & River Trust ? Cardie is it one of yours.

No, we have no responsibility for or jurisdiction over waterways. The many different drainage boards (going back to medeival times), river authorities, local authorities etc were amalgamated into the olf Water Authorities in 1973 and then split out again after privatisation in 1989. Some sit in the Environment Agency and others are stand alone. I think, but may be wrong, that the canal authorities/British Waterways/canal trust has always been separate. Rivers house was occupied by various drainage and navigation bodies and then Yorkshire Water Authority (not Yorkshire Water as now), after privatisation it was occupied by the National Rivers Authority and then the Environment agency and various drainage boards.There's some interesting murals inside if you ever get the chance to have a look.
