Is there an online map showing the Leeds postcode areas in detail?

You can put the "outward" (left hand) bit of the postcode into Google Maps to get an outline of the area, like this one for LS2: http://goo.gl/maps/dGbRI

You have to be careful with postcode maps, though. Sometimes, the Post Office don't apply them for logistical reasons. For example, the Quarry Hill site is in the LS9 postcode area, but the DWP/NHS building has an LS2 postcode because its mail volume is deemed to be too large for the LS9 delivery office to handle.

When I was a postie in the Leeds 8 area the sorting office moved from Karnac Road.It was far too small to handle today's mail levels. Royal Mail bought this unit on Dolly Lane herehttp://goo.gl/maps/VvYN7The sorting office was for the LS8 postcode that covered as far as Street Lane, Dib Lane, Gledhow as well as Harehills. But the new sorting office was actually just in the Leeds 9 postcode. It was one big unit they split into 2, one for the sorting office, and the other they leased out now occupied by Andrew Page Car parts. So they changed the address from Dolly Lane LS9 , and placed it into the new LS 8 address Harehills delivery Office. Gledhow Lane. LS8 5RAMeanwhile Andrew page in the same building split next door has this address. Dolly Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS9 7NN.The postcode boundary splits with this fencehttp://goo.gl/maps/QMBz9

Thanks all for your responses. I've only had a quick skeg around the Leeds postal codes map but it is obvious that there seem to be strange outlines of Post Code (PC) areas, that presumably may be to let some businesses have a PC in another area for whatever reason. What area a Post Code comes under can though be odd, as for example in the copy with this post of part of the PC map that in the centre has an area that has an LS6 PC (which is otherwise the large area to and off the top left) yet it is completely surrounded by the LS7 PC!

Crazy isn't it?The same building is not even on the same street, one half is Dolly Lane, the other Gledhow Road. Plus the postie for Andrew Page has to come all the way from the Leeds 9 delivery office (which was Torre Road) But I believe they now share with LS 14 Delivery Office at Seacrofthttp://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/lat ... -3949252If so, the postie will have to travel all the way from Seacroft to Andrew Page, and a delivery office is right next door!

I discovered that in my own post code area of LS16 there is a small 'peninsula' of LS16 that sticks out to the south that encloses the tower block of Norman Towers! How strange! I live right on the border of LS16 and LS18 which seems to be formed by a stretch of the Harrogate train line. Of course we all know the perils of living in certain post codes for reasons of car insurance / house prices etc. I discovered to my dismay a few years ago that residents of my post code area LS16 were excluded from applying for small business grant funding from the LEGI (Leeds Enterprise Grant Initiative) which was a sum of £20 million awarded to Leeds for residents of 'hard-up' post codes to use to help become self-employed or start their own small business. The LEGI postcode applicable areas were places like LS2 - LS15 and a few other places, but my own post code area must have been considered as far too 'affluent' for anyone there to require financial assistance! It seemed ludicrous that even though I was living in a council high-rise tower block that I was discriminated against as LS16 also includes lots of desirable properties - Bramhope / West Park / Adel etc. Yet someone living in an enormous private house in Chapel Allerton / Armley etc would have been welcome to apply to the funding... What a ridiculous scheme!

A good map of the Leeds postcode area, showing the different postcode districts, can be found here: http://www.postcodes-uk.com/leeds-postcode-area.
