On Facebook I suggested setting up an Amazon affiliate account so we can buy books and help support the site at the same time. If SL isn't going to produce a book of its own, how about a Secret Leeds map? It could have things like what was there before the big shopping centres were built, notable lost pubs, and the locations of things like the Skulls and Boot and Shoe yards. I'd also be very interested in a map of Holbeck and Hunslet comparing before and after all the slum clearances.

Great stuff, good suggestions thanks folks. JD I'm working on a new logo for the site at the moment, we had a competition a couple of months ago, same time as the photo comp for the new site banners. If you have any ideas please feel free to whizz them over to me, duncan@tyrell.mobi.I'm looking into the Amazon affiliate stuff Marcus, and who says we're not going to do a SecretLeeds book? Watch this space over the coming weeks

Hmm, seems a bit like Secret Leeds has been bought by Disney... Will this Secret Leeds 'book' just be created by a select few or is it something we will all have some input in? I was under the impression that the Secret Leeds forum was built by its members who contributed information and took part in discussions. How about a Secret Leeds branded sausage roll, or flat cap even?

Hehe thanks for your feedback Jon - people seemed to like the idea of SecretLeeds stuff so I ran with it and have opened a discussion with the users about what, if anything, they would like to see. At the end of the day it could help to fund the site. The current advertising revenue enabled the upgrade to the new server (which fixed a number of site issues) and any money generated will be ploughed back into developing the site further. You don't have to buy a pin badge to post a thread or anything though As for the book, it's not going to be a SecretLeeds book as such - it's part of a national series of similar local history themed picture books. I was approached about it via the site though and it would be done entirely in open collaboration with any interested SL members. If folk *are* interested, then it would be nice to be able to put the SecretLeeds name on the cover, and get us out there a bit in the real world, not least as it could help to attract new members. I'm planning on doing a bit more work on the site first though, mainly on the photo upload mechanism, before revealing the details and getting folk involved - otherwise it will be a bit tricky to contribute. Will keep you posted anyway.
