A lot of action recently on the stretch of Otley Road A660 between Spen Rd/West Park Roundabout & Ring Road both in & outbound.http://goo.gl/maps/bFZHGIt's 30mph from the ring rd roundabout inbound & there's a fixed camera down past the Village Hotel.http://www.safetycameraswestyorkshire.c ... ure.htmthe vans have orange lights rather like motorway maintenance rather than constabulary blue

Thanks Jogon for the http://www.safetycameraswestyorkshire.c ... future.htm link which brings up some interesting (and worrying) accident information.

Having looked at the link, they seem to pick a section of the A61 at Alwoodley. They've not a serious speeding problem, but a fair few accidents.Would I dare suggest that speed is not the cause of most the accidents? Pulling out to pass parked cars is a problem, and there are plenty of drives and side roads to have vehicles emerge from without looking.
I like work. I can watch it for hours.

I've seen the aftermath of quite a lot of accidents at the Lawnswood roundabout over the last couple of months (nothing to do with me; they happened before I got there). With 3 lanes, 3 speed limits (30 going down the A660 into Headingley, 40 on the outer ring road towards Horsforth and on the A660 northbound, 70 on the outer ring road towards Meanwood and Moor Allerton), and a row of houses with private drives, it is very complicated. Not sure how they could make it safer without fitting traffic lights, but reduced traffic from closing Bodington Hall might help. Since I got a scooter I find having little distractions like speed cushions, chicanes, mini roundabouts and the like actually makes things less safe because you've got to concentrate on those rather than something like a small child about to run out into the road. I also find myself wishing they could have time-variable speed limits, because going at 20 mph past a school when it's closed at night or over the weekend just feels a bit silly.

mhouldengood point - time variable and perhaps (like France) weather variable ie 70 = 60 if it's raining etc.I got badly wounded a year ago on the 3 laner inbound outside Weetwood nick. 0945.Nothing to do with speed.Hit from behind by a (nice, helpful chap) who was checking on "what the BMW behind him was doing in his rear view mirror".

I had an interesting discussion with a French traffic cop about what constituted rain when pulled over in an intermittent light drizzle of the misting variety. Unfortunatley I don't know the French word for very light mizzle.

Typical. Scammer vans don't travel far from home. Only around the corner from Weetwood nick. Lawnswood roundabout is a mare.. Like it has been stated, 40 coming from Lawnswood to 30 past the playing fields and don't forget the bus lane!! 40 on one side of the Ring Road to national 70 on the run to Moortown. I wonder if WYP will start to check the state of the roads in Leeds? Since the snow melted and years of neglect the potholes and patches are enormous, some down to the setts! Oh and in Summer come nice weather, Dewsbury Road scammer van... I know why it's a 40 due to residential housing, but every day!!

At least West Yorks Scamera vans are marked up in a similar style to police vehicles.Venture over the border into North Yorkshire where they really hate motorists (and especially motorcyclists) and you'll find their Scamera vans are completely unmarked and designed to look like camper vans.Returning to Leeds, I haven't seen the van that used to park blocking the pavement by York Road at Seacroft for ages now. Maybe there are richer pickings elsewhere....

RaveyI think you'll find he's on Leeds Road at John O'Gaunts, between the Manheim Motor Auction and the MI J46 roundabout (either side, depending on time of day).
