Hi Secret Leeds users, I came across this site when I was trying to find out about the coal mining and steel-works in New Farnley where I now live. However, I had a brain wave that you good people may be able to help me with my dog-walking problem! I have a whippet puppy with terrible recall and I can't let her off the lead for a run. Does any one know of a safe, completely enclosed field where she can run free and practise her recall? Barbed wire fences would not be suitable as she would run straight through if she saw a squirrel/rabbit. Hopefully someone will know of a secret field!! I hope this is suitable use of Secret Leeds forum, it's a great site.Thanks.

Hello and welcomeSounds a lovely 'pointy puppy'. I can't help you there, but CAN recommend a book for you:- Narrow Dog to Carcassonne.

I do know one, yes, but its miles away from New Farnley I'm afraid, between the Coal Road / Ring Road at Seacroft. A lovely small little conservation area it is.

Thank you for your replies. I wouldn't mind travelling a bit (although aforementioned dog is also travel sick!!). Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Hiya, I'm not far from New Farnley, but I don't let my dogs off the lead. Where do you walk at the moment? I just tend to stick to the same couple of routes, two I've had to give up due to seriously wet ground over the last few months!Vikki x

I'm struggling to think of any suitably enclosed places, but you are on the opposite side of Leeds to me.I know of recall training being done in the tennis courts of a well known park (which were nicely enclosed with safe, decent grade meshing), but I'd guess that such places are 'off limits' to dogs now under the new council dog control orders...www.leeds.gov.uk/dogs If you have a dog, the above link makes interesting reading.

There is an indoor option, My Pet Stop at Tingley will let you book their arena, I haven't been up for about two years, but it used to be something like £3 per dog per half an hour, it was great! Keep meaning to book again but haven't had the chance. The last time I enquired was about a year ago and I think they were only taking bookings on Sundays, and had a waiting time of about four weeks.

Thank you for your suggestion but My Pet Stop Tingley has been closed down. At the moment I just walk my dog around the streets near my home in New Farnley. She gets to run in the garden (fairly long lawn) but its not big enough for a whippet, even a puppy. We do go to parks sometimes (on lead) but as I said she is car sick on journeys longer than 10 mins! There must be an enclosed space somewhere in Leeds! I could practice on tennis courts altho' running on concrete not too good on the paws. Thanks anyway I'll keep looking.

Oh I hadn't realised it had closed, that is such a shame. If you do find somewhere please let me know as that was the only place that I could let my two off apart from the garden likewise, if I find anywhere I will post here.
