Not much activity on the W&W front just now. So here are three photographs, the objects of which are obviously in close proximity to each other .The what is clear enough. The where might be more taxing unless you know straightaway, or you have access to the right sort of resources to conduct research. 'Simple' googling, for me at least, produced little in the way of tangible results. Google maps and streetview will be of very limited use too.So here goes. One down, two to go.

The who is also a poser.Sydney Jacobson, who appears on the first snap, is already mentioned in Secret Leeds on the "Burton's" thread.Or a Sidney Jacobson is. I don't know if this one is the same man.So here is a clue. The photographs were not taken at Burton's on Hudson Road.Here is the second of three.

This is the final photograph. This one stands at the other side of, and nearer to the entrance door of the building and for that reason may be the 'daddy' so to speak. In more ways than one.One more clue. The location is nearer to Leeds Town Hall than Morley Town Hall. But then again it's not really that close to Leeds Town Hall.Anyway, I hope this generates some interest.What's that I hear you say? What's the prize for the winner? How about a custom made shirt?Good hunting!

Jacksons the tailors certainly, and I think it is pre Burtons merger so would have to say where Berwin & Berwin is now off Roseville Road?

I am impressed LS1. Very impressed.No idea what LS is supposed to signify - especially on this site - but the numeric 1 is entirely appropriate in this case. You are definitely number 1. I only saw these foundation stones when I was having a wander around Evans Halshaw, and thought that there might be at least a couple of days in the search. I never dreamt it would be over within minutes.Following your post I had another go on Google with a more meaningful search argument where I included 'Burtons merger'. This brought up the book 'A History of the Leeds Clothing Industry 1850-1990' by Katrina Honeyman. One extract tells that both Lionel and indeed Sidney (sic) Jacobson were the big-money transfers in the merger of the Jackson and Burton tailoring empires. One of the reasons for the merger from the Burton point of view was that managerial expertise was in short supply. Old man Montague had not groomed his own three sons to survive in the business world without him at their side. Although surely in modern terms Jackson will have been an 'acquisition' of Burton. Burton must have been the larger of the two firms. But I have other questions you may be able to answer. The street off Roseville Road that the factory is on is unnamed. There is no street sign there and no indications on maps. Why is that? If there should be one, what is the street called?Next question. What special powers led you to get this so quickly?And well done!

Well, a combination of knowing already and a bit of google. I'd been to some if the Berwin factory sales in the past and noticed them there and was sure that they were operation in conjunction with Burtons at one point.

Recognised pic 1 straight off.Saw the stones most days when I was waiting in the car to take Mam home,she was a button hole machinist at Jacksons.Mr Sydney as he was known as was well thought of by the staff which when ypu saw some of the sweatshops in tailoring is not surprising.She had the chance to move to Burtons. but was not happy about it so she left
