Leodian I am with you in that in fact back when it was 48 hours I had wished it was 72 hours. To be fair it was thought to be a reason behind delays on the page loading which is why it was reduced. The finger now seems to be being pointed at longer threads abd one of the two longest has been closed and restarted. My personal opinion is that the finger may be pointing in the right direction as the other longest thread is in the active threads and the page has been slow loading since that thread qualified for it again yesterday

I like the idea of the two (or more) part long threads. Could the norm perhaps be that when a thread exceeds 110 pages the first 100 pages be "hived off" into a Part One. The remaining ten or so pages could then form the initial section of a Part Two, so that the interruption in continuity for regular users is less disruptional?

The site has definitely slowed down since the long threads with lots of pages has gone back in the active threads section. I would vote closing threads down after 50 pages and start part 2, 3 and 4 e.t.c.

Sorry folks, hadn't spotted this discussion. I'll go ahead and crop those long threads down. Good idea about the overlap Jim, but sadly I don't think I can do that without losing the user details for each post. I've not been sitting on my hands recently anyway, I set up the new server last weekend and have been testing on it all week. Sadly it seems to be suffering from the same issue with long threads. On the upside it has fixed some other issues, so I reckon I'll switch it over this weekend, after I've done a backup and so forth.Cheers all!dsco

That seems to have worked - please feel free to post in the new Part Two threads folks, no one has added anything to the Lost Pubs since I changed it and I was worrying you didn't approve of my unilateral decision to chop it in two!Good call on extending the Active Threads threshold by the way, I'll bump it up to 72 hours on the new server now that it's working as expected.Cheers, dsco

I don't know if it until the redirection works Duncan, but on clicking on the "my threads" I get a time out and when trying to use the google search to track a thread to post on it ,I keep getting returned to the main forum page instead of the thread when clicking on the link.
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!

My threads is working fine for me Steve, and I have been posting in all the big threads so I'm not sure what that would be happening. The Google link redirecting to the home page should resolve itself once the domain updates.

Just checking, but although I can access the forum and the "active threads" link is now working quickly, the site in my address bar is showing an ftp address, and not secretleeds.I assume that once the server move is complete, this will correct itself, but felt it worth mentioning just in case it's an issue. Thanks for your continuing work to improve and maintain the site, Duncan!

DNS promulgation/migration takes some time (72 hours and beyond) to go worldwide. DNS is what maps the URL (what us humans understand as an address) to the IP address (what the computers and other electronic communication devices understand as an address). The server move has happened its just that not all the electronic routing devices round the world have caught up.As an analogy when I moved home 10 years ago it took nearly 12 months for me to remember eveybody who may need my mailing address. It took time for it to spread. My name hadn't changed but my address had
