This photo was posted on a Facebook site by David Bland, it was in Fridays YEP. Surely this can't be The Headrow as it looks to be one way traffic & I cannot recollect one way traffic on The Headrow & to me it looks like BriggateAnother faux pas by the YEP or I am getting senile ???. Your thoughts please

Wow this is a real teaser, even to those of us who are "familiar" with the City Centre - the date of the picture would be helpful. However for a first guess I'd put my money on Briggate. The single decker bus is on the 63 South Accommodation Road Circular service which did not originally serve Briggate, but after Vicar lane was made one way heading south, and Briggate one way heading north, the route was altered so that incoming buses had to use Briggate. The bus is already in the middle of the road so as to turn right at the Odeon to go down the Headrow to its stop at the Gas Showrooms in Eastgate. The vehicle is an AEC Swift which puts the picture in the late 1960s near enough. Always ready to be put right, but I'm fairly confident of this one, and the apparent rise in the road matches the top of Briggate, probably about where Harvey Nichols is now.

Oh heck lads - that's blown my theory out of the water - by 1974 the 63/64 circulars were no more and on top of that there was no new 63 route. The bus does seem to partly say "Crossgates" which on the alphabetical destination blinds was next to Cross Green where there was a newish route. Also the left hand curve of the buildings in the background has a real "feel" of Vicar Lane looking towards the Markets.I'm totally baffled now I must say. "AMBER", are you receiving ??

Briggate and Headrow are "straight" from top to bottom. Stand at the top of Briggate and look down and you can see that its is a straight road with no "kink"The "kink" as Blakey has pointed out would seem to show its more likely to be Vicar Lane which was for some time one way traffic in the direction Headrow to Calls.Im not old enough to remember if this was the case (direction of or indeed existance of) one way traffic on Vicar Lane in 1974.

I beg to differ https://goo.gl/maps/GxdbILower Briggate runs slghtly to the west of north. The now pedestrianised middle very slightly east of north and New Briggate then kinks even further to the northeast. I think the reference to Headrow is that the camera position is pretty much at the point the Headrow crosses Briggate but agree with others this is looking pretty much southwards down Briggate. 1974 would certainly be about the time both Vicar Lane and Briggate were made one way because I do have memories of at least Vicar Lane being two way and I'd still be in single figures age wise at the beginning of 74.

Hard to tell but the bus looks empty. Is it possible that the bus has just run into Leeds as one service and is about to run out as another. The bus is just beyond a pedestrain crossing (the end of Commercial Street? if the Briggate holds) could the driver have started but not completed the number and destination changes. The 2nd number and destination are far from central.
