I'm struggling to see this big wheel measures 60 metres high, or 196 feet in good old English. Does anyone else think this big wheel isn't very big really?

Seeing the wheel reminds me of those wheels that a pet mouse runs round. Mind you, it would need a lot of mice to spin this one! I hope it is very secure as it will take a lot of buildings out if it should fall over in the wrong direction.

I must admit it doesn't look overly impressive in these pics. That said, you can see it peeking over the buildings when traveling eastbound on the IRR, so maybe it's a perspective thing? For me though, it's in completely the wrong place, tucked away on a bombsite car park with next to no passing trade - and not what appears the best of views to 'observe' from. I appreciate that with Millennium Square being ruled out due to Tarquin not wanting to close his blinds, the choice of sites must have been limited, but I'm sure they could have found somewhere better. City Square, perhaps?

I wonder how many parking spaces are being lost for the next three months. The Market Tavern (adjacent to the current Wheel location) was demolished supposedly to create more parking spaces, but I bet the footprint of the Wheel is larger!

That would be a catastrophe L.C.C like car parks in Leeds, it's all we can have built, especially on prime site land.Leeds the car park City of the North! It is of course L.C.C's covert strategy to solve the transport problems in the city. Build nothing but car parks and there is no reason to come into the centre of Leeds anymore. It's quite clever really

As there is already a car park behind it would not surprise me if what is left of the White Cloth Hall on Kirkgate and the other buildings there were knocked down to make space for a bigger car park.

I took this photo of the wheel late a.m. today (Feb 15 2013). Spot the man working on it. He must have a a head for heights!

Another of several photos of the wheel that I took late a.m. today. I liked the angle and the wispy clouds in this one but the Sun was in my face so I was surprised that it came out hopefully good enough to show here.
