Work has recently started on alterations to Dortmund Square and the main feature is to be a tree planted in honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Passing by today I was struck by how deep the hole is for the tree, such that I thought that a new pit shaft was being dug (OK, I exaggerate. ). On reading a notice at the site it states that advanced engineering techniques are being used to make sure that the tree can send down deep roots.

L.C.C are REALLY pleased with this amazing new development for Leeds. So much so they have articles like this published.New tree *JEWEL IN THE CROWN* as Dortmund Square gets makeoverhttp://www.leeds.gov.uk/news/Pages/New-tree-je ... r.aspxThey seem to be really pleased with themselves they've managed to go from idea, feasibility, planning, strategy to digging the actual hole for it.Pat on the backs all round chaps One small snag is the tree planted to mark the 2012 Queens Diamond Jubilee won't actually be planted until 2013.2013 looks to be the year Leeds finally reaches it's pinnacle, a new city tree, a big wheel, and music arena opened decades after rival cities.

Great, so they get rid of the other trees in the square that were above the benches and put another one there. Not a problem in itself but the bird mess that used to be on the benches was disgraceful. The birds will now just sit in the new tree and mess all over people passing by/ sitting on benches/ standing there etc etc.Well done again LCC.
