A couple of our longer service staff were on duty at the time of the bombing. One was a new Auxillary Nurse (retired recently)Aother was a Student Nurse, now the Department Manager (ie; 'number 1 Sister')The other was a (recently retired) Charge-Nurse, but was newly qualified at that time. There was also a guy in the Path Lab, who was in the transfusion department, who spend hours & hours sorting out blood for themBefore my time though!!, I was 9 when it happenedI've mentioned this to them in the past, & they all remember it with horror - at that time, we sent out a 'flying squad' to major incidents(the last one I believe they attended, or were on stand-by to go to, was Great Heck train crash)

You mention that you no longer send out a flying squad to such incidents so whats the current protocol? Air Ambulance?
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

Yes, PinderfieldsIf absolutely necessary, we will send staff. Some of the Consultants are on-call, & will attend RTCs, as well as being on-call for our own Department.A crew, including friends of mine, did go to an incident in Stanley a couple of years agohttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bradford- ... e-11749889

At the time the West Riding County Council still existed (just) and presumably as the incident happened in the West Riding, the West Riding Ambulance Service were in attendance, same for police and fire. Perhaps that's why it was Pinderfields. But then again the Regional Burns Unit was at Pinderfields and they were involved in the Bradford City fire.
