I'm by no means saying it was but around that time there were a number of demonstrations in the city by students protesting about the Shah. The marches often ended in a picket outside The Yorkshire Post in Wellington Street which supported the Shah. They were sometimes quite intimidating.

I remember the painted "Down With The Fascist Shah Of Iran" slogans all over the place.

I remember what happened at Kitson College. There were lots of Iranians studying there in the late 70's early 80's. Loads of "Down with the Shah!" etc. Also there were apprentices from ROF Barnbow! Whose jobs relied on the Shah buying their new tank! When the Shah of Iran was deposed in the Revolution by the Ayatollahs, the Barnbow lads could have been unemployed. It all came to a head in the Refectory. The next week, no Iranians left in the place. They all went. The Barnbow lads stayed and studied.The Shah tank became Challenger 1.
