There was a BBC Radio 4 play about David Oluwale in 1973 - I have a recording. And then there was the book 'Nationality - Wog' By Kester Aspden - that was turned into a play. I bought the book and I saw the play at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Feb 2009. The book is fascinating because it gives a real insight into Leeds Police culture in the late 1960's/early 1970's and a further insight into Leeds life at the time of the Scotland Yard investigation in the early 1970's.

On page 29 of the YEP today there is a report about a campaigning group aiming to create a permanent memorial to David Oluwale and that they are negotiating with ASDA who owns some unused land next to the River Aire which is hoped to lease for a small garden. If the report is in the YEP website I was unable to find it.

I remember Albert Johansen stepping out of church with his bride after the wedding ceremony, I was driving past at the time, the church was on the corner of Woodhouse Lane and Blackman Lane. He, I believe died a lone death on benefits in a flat in Little London. Another sad ending to a man who at one point was a Leeds star.

Don't know if that's correct though - anyone?Doubtless they would have faced some, less, of the same problems he knew.

In Oliver Cross's column on page 14 in today's Yorkshire Evening Post he has a report about the memorial event to David Oluwale that was recently held by the River Aire which he attended. The report is very sympathetic to David and the injustice that he suffered, though describing him as "a hopeless loser" in the article did jar. If there is an online version of the report I could not find it.
