Nothing is marked on it though. It's the first time I've seen a shelter marked like that on a map. I'll check the other locations where they are if the 1954 map is available in that area. Hi phill What i dont understand is the size of the oblong on your map it takes up most of the width of the moor.If i had not known the area i would have thought it was a cricket pitch but it is too near the boundry wall of the old St Peters Church the wall would have been there since the late eighteen hundreds. The mound takes up only a small part of the oblong.Am i makeing a mountain out of a mole hill.? He. He.Ps I looked at the map on Hunslet Remembered and the oblong is not there.
No matter were i end my days im an Hunslet lad with Hunslet ways.

It's most certainly the mound of earth for the air raid shelter. It's one of 4 or 5 marked off in the same way on the 1950's map. It's exactly the right shape, and locations where they stand today.

Here's the closer look at the map.And for comparison the Woodhouse Moor part of the map.And the size and shape of the Beeston shelter, which pretty much matches exactly the Hunslet Moor map.
