The oblong marked on your map is nearly the full length of the moor could this have been the size of the air raid shelter. If you look at how many houses are in the area could it have been this size.If not what could it have been i can say for sure that the shelter that i saw them fill in was at tha far end of this oblong feature it could have been fifteen to twenty years ago and of course the landscape has changed since then ie the grass has grown back.Has you say what is the manhole cover for?Could they have filled in most of it years before then filled in the piece i saw if so i cant see why they left the end bit.My mother lived in St Peters court just over the wall from the site and did not know it was there. It was a grass covered mound and me being me thought it did not fit in with the rest of the moor all the rest of the moor was flat.
No matter were i end my days im an Hunslet lad with Hunslet ways.

Hi tilly, Cardie has cleared up the manhole issue - not sure what the mound is if it is not your shelter, cardie didn't mention any storm water tanks so not that. Time to dig again maybe. (seem to have a strange urge for this lately)

Hi Tilly.I've looked at all the old maps, and nothing is marked in that area until 1954, and if you view it close up it clearly shows the raised mound of earth where the shelter was. Nothing is marked on it though. It's the first time I've seen a shelter marked like that on a map. I'll check the other locations where they are if the 1954 map is available in that area.

The 1950's map isn't available all over Leeds. But it clearly has the raised earth mounds marking off the Hunslet Moor, Potternewton, Woodhouse, and Chapel Allerton shelters.
