Having come across several articles about this building while researching the skulls, it still amuses me that one of the dignitaries attending the opening of the Assembly Rooms that were over one part of the Cloth Hall was one Lady Effingham, who sounds like she should be married to Lord Sid James Effingham, bart. Ahem. Carry on.

The cupola on the Met Hotel is from the 4th White Cloth Hall which was on the same site as the hotel, in what is now King Street. There's sometimes a bit of confusion about which cupola was used, because the Coloured Cloth Hall was on the site of the former GPO in City Square and Infirmary Street (now apartments, offices and restaurants) but I don't think any remains of that Cloth Hall still exist.

I think the only "sign" of the Coloured Cloth Hall now is the Leeds Met Uni building on Quebec Street, named Cloth Hall Court.

Found this on Leodis obviously taken a little later than Jogons top photo. Laings were the first company I ever worked for, I started my apprenticeship with them in 1983. They were one of the building construction giants at the time, now they don't even go in for new build contract work at all.
