I used to like the Wrens, a nice little real ale pub, I would call in for a pint when in town and I could watch for my bus coming up to the stop on Upper Briggate. Think I will give it a miss from now on.Regards.

It's a peculiar phrase to apply to a pub that serves food - it always puts me in mind of gastroenteritis, which is something you certainly don't want when you're out for a posh pie and thrice cooked chips....The Central used to be a good live music venue, once upon a time.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Following on from Drapsey’s Facebook post about the “mystery pub” in Chapel Allerton, here is a map of the area showing the pubs as they were – more or less – after the turn of the century. From top to bottom....[in red] The Queens Arms – replaced in 1931 by the current premises, although the building survives.[in green] The Regent[in red] The Black Swan – Drapsey’s mystery pub.[in green] The Nag’s Head[in red] The Bay Horse – closed 1873 but the building survived for many years as a private residence.

Very interesting, do you know where abouts the Black Swan was situated on Woodland Lane ? I think the Swan you mentioned was the White Swan on Well Lane.Regards.

The pub was there in 1956 and disappeared somewhere between then and 1965 according to Old Maps. There's this photo of Half Mile Lane on Leodis and some comments at http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL which suggest it was gone by 1959 when the housing estate was built:I had a look at the London Gazette but nothing of note happened on Coal Hill Lane or Half Mile Lane apart from the odd bit of roadworks. Something I did find that has absolutely nothing to do with pubs was an application for the West Yorkshire Gas Distribution Company to supply gas produced by the Yeadon & Guiseley Gas Company through Rodley, Farsley and Rawdon. The notice is at http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/35943/pages/1267 and it must have been quite a challenge to do during WW2.
