Unfortunately, there are no secrets on the internet. Google knows everything.

Unfortunately, there are no secrets on the internet. Google knows everything. Ethics on Secret Leeds. I'm impressed. Using the internet should always be an accepted option for these W&W tasks, if only to confirm what you may have known – or more accurately, thought. As for the other methods….Walking about hoping to see it……OK for town centre but a bit time-consuming if the location is suburban, and especially if you are unfamiliar with it. If this is so, the fun is in maybe having a germ of an idea and then taking advantage of any clues offered.Bicycle…..haven’t got one.Binoculars……wouldn’t fancy gawping up at some buildings - residential or commercial, but especially residential - with the aid of binos, and especially if the W&W were in a dodgy (for whatever reason) location.A to Z map……how would that work if you don’t know the place to start with?Asking a postman…..generally up and about too early to see a postie these days. But maybe that’s how Phill gets the inside track, the box seat. And good luck to him too. He's the 'daddy' on here. And James. Thanks for the tip. Never twigged about using local knowledge. Most of the W&W’s are about Leeds as it is now, not how it used to be. But then again, these places have always been there. Certainly in our lifetimes. How would anybody remember Thorn Lane as it used to be in 1936 on here?

How long have you lived at Davis Ave Lee?If it's a while you'd remember the little postman who did that round for ages. I'm going back 8 years or more now. The poison dwarf we used to call him!!I clouted him over the head with a bundle of mail once. He made enemies easily lol

You're welcome: though before you jumped in you might have noticed that the opening post gave a clue saying the place hadn't changed much (since 1936). As the date of the photograph was divulged, it made searching for the answer on Google an easy option. Anyone could do that. I thought the whole idea was to demonstrate your knowledge of Leeds from within your own resources.

I use any method necessary to guess them, mostly these days I don't answer the question but will put a few clues in at times. 98% of the time I know where the place is because I've been there or seen it, the other 2% I'll use logical or detective work. Even checking what date the photo was taken, and it sometimes rings a bell with comments that person has made about a place.Anything goes to answering the question, in all honesty it's more fun when you don't know the answer, but have to work it out. It's too easy otherwise I.M.O!

Suppose the date of this particular photo had not been revealed, what information - apart from specific local knowledge - could be used to work out where this place was (and still is)? I knew that either googling the date or searching the Leodis database would be likely to give the right answer. But that doesn't give credit to people who are independently well-informed about the city because they live there and have studied its history and geography etc.

The best clue on that photo is the house with a Dutch colonial roof. It's very unique, there aren't many in Leeds.I'm sure a good bit of detective work can narrow a search down to a few small areas.Church spires are great clues, you can use any clues, even the smallest ones. I used a church spire, and google work to find out this place. http://tinyurl.com/9qon7az(My answer is in the comments below the photo)I googled what places Barton buses ran too to narrow down the area. Then I searched church spires (images) for each town and city that bus company ran too. It took me 15 minutes to get that answer, yet I've never been to Nottingham before. It can be very easy to locate a place with little clues, I do it all the time lol.
