I saw episode 1 Johnny and I was trying to get my head round it.I'm very familiar with the place and whilst some of the shots looked very like, there were others I couldn't reconcile.....still,the camera angles can be deceptive and I'd be happy to stand corrected. Hi Somme, as I say it's not a pub I'm familiar with but Joe and Alice walked out of the pub through two glass doors and though it was in mirror image I thought it said on one door "Garden" and on the other "Gate".

Well,no doubting that Johnny....it has been used for a lot of TV and film work over the years. Many of the original Tetley Bittermen tv adverts were filmed inside.I was a regular user for 20+years and your comment would substantiate its use in the drama. The camera does play tricks at times !

Thanks Somme, I didn't think it was a very good version - not enough muck and soot but it was acted well.

Hi Johnny, just watched concluding part. Was indeed the "Gate"......no question about it.Thought the two parter was a bit disjointed.....6/10 for me ! Nice to see the old pub however. You should visit someday. It's a little gem.

Hi Somme, thanks for the confirmation. I think it's a bit out of its time, the play that is, in this day and age. I did go in the "Garden" once or twice many years ago when I was a United fanatic but I can't remember much about it. It didn't look as though it had been altered very much over the years - still an old-time Leeds boozer.

Thanks Johnny,yes....it's not altered that much over the years-mainly because of it's listed(grade 2) status I guess, which prevents much alteration.I think the tv guys did one or two temporary adjustments to suit their own purposes but the bar, open fires, passageway, swing doors etc were all very much in evidence.Worth a re-visit.I'll be calling in sometime soon to see what's on offer.Don't think Maxine Peak will be sat there though !
