ARE THERE ANY OF THE OLD PURPLE ENAMALLED STREET NAMES LEFT? USED TO BE SOME AT THE BACK OF BLACKBURNS AIRCRAFT WORKS,ROUNDHAY ROAD.SURLEY SOME MUST SURVIVE SOMEWHERE...??

just looked on google earth,the houses on the ravenscars are still there,so maybe the street names are,so if anyone wants to go look,they can also get into the other part of gipton woods at the start of the cul de sac streets.....thats where the air raid shelters are.

Wiggy, Be aware that google earth images are about 7 years old! so things on there may not actually be on the ground now

There are quite a few about - I'll try to get a pic - I'm certain there's one on the wonderfully named ' Mafeking's for instance. Incidentally I always took them to be blue - I think they must fade and change colour.

DrapesyI spent ages traipsing round Burley like a dishevelled rat convinced I'd seen a purple street sign there then you post one from a street that I trip up over every day on my way to work. Shows how much I take in. THANKS PAL!!!!     Moggy
