Just going back to my post above, I was wondering if the boat crest could have been Southampton. Anyway whilst browsing to see I came across this, you guys will love it Coats of arms: Guess the 25 British cities.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/trave ... ities.html

Where are Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, and St Albans? Perhaps there are further fine carvings to be found elsewhere in the station precinct. Following up my own suggestion I checked the stone clad sections of the Queens and adjacent railway office block to see if any more coats of arms were present. As far as I can see there aren't any more, but there are six prominent LMS crests and two further examples of the intertwined LMS initials. As that seems to be the lot, I feel safe in declaring that the building was almost certainly commissioned and built by the LMS alone, and that my guess that what the coats of arms have in common is that they are all from places served by the then LMS railway is borne out.All we need now is to identify the city or town represented by coat of arms B3 of drapesy's listing (page 3 of this thread)

A sort of reciprocated gesture by the architect? Perhaps the cities had regional importance, or head offices for the rail company? That would take a bit of working out on google search I guess. Here's the GER Liverpool station City crests. It seems it was a popular thing to do by the big rail companies.    That's another one to guess if anyone fancies a challenge          Starting at "One o'clock" as 'A' and going round to 'H'A. Maldon B. IpswichC. NorwichD. CambridgeE. DerbyF. NorthamptonG. ???H. Essex    I'm sure I've seen 'G' somewhere but can't place it

Wikipedia (at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Great ... Shield.jpg) identifies them as Maldon, Ipswich, Norwich, Cambridge, Hertford, Northampton, Huntingdon, and Middlesex (which has the same crest as Essex).I had a quick look at the service panels under the overhang when I walked under and it looks like they might be there for access to the void under the floor above or possibly drainpipes concealed in the columns if there are any. One of them on Google Streetview: http://goo.gl/maps/15tTi

The closest to coat of arms B3 that I can find is that of Inverness. The full version of that contains more features, but the version shown under the Queens arch is the major centre-piece.
