From my experience, traffic volumes aside, Bradford "drivers" are a nightmare. The last time I ventured down Leeds Rd there were more duff signals; pull out and we'll try and miss you; last minute u turns and the like. Expect the unexpected.

If I may offer a spot of informed conjecture?Could the increase in congestions be down to the councils attempts to throttle traffic everywhere it goes? Bus priority traffic lights that give the 'ordinary' carriageway less than a minute on green on major roads?Narrowing major thoroughfares like Bishopsgate Street / City Square?Poorly sequenced traffic lights on routes in and out of the city centre resulting in stop / start traffic? (In the last month the traffic lights on Neville Street and more recently Great Wilson Street have both been out of action for several days and in both instances traffic has flowed significantly better while they were off).Lazy contractors leaving "lane closed" signs and cones on city centre roads when the closure isn't in force?Failure to enforce 'no stopping' on routes like Quebec Street during the peaks? Then add to that the major roadworks on the M62 (no hard shoulder so nowhere to go if you break down / have a bump, plus a rigorously enforced 50mph limit) which won't be finished until Winter 2013 and it's hardly a surprise is it?That said I can still drive from East Leeds (via the city centre) to Halifax in under an hour on a morning and do the reverse in under an hour and a half in the evening rush most days so things can't be too bad. What we need is some sort of mass transit system....
