LeoGood shot, I cycled by Wed last. That also reminded me that the lovely art shop and picture framers, Gadsbys 33 New Briggate has now quietly gone. Sad, I miss it.That is another of those 'touchstones' which I miss. As a little kid I loved the place, the paints, easels. Even the smell.Gorgeous little pots of Windsor & Newton drawing inks (the cheery 'spider' character on the black indian bottles).Lovely staff too, who I knew 30+ years.

Geordie, Its got to be a typo as they are not in the mock Tudor building. They are from the front, if you look on Merrion Street, in what LOOKS like the mock Tudor building but it is actually in the building behind as you can see from the maps.the area was redeveloped in the late 20/30s as you can see by the following.http://www.leodis.org/display.aspx?reso ... LAY=FULLOn the last photo you can see how the old school/ academy peeps out of the back. This one shows how the frontage of New Briggate and Merrion Street was demolished (evidently post 1929)Geordie, I hope this helps......

Thanks again LS1. You've been the model of patience with me on this one! So to sum up, Leodis has it wrong that they moved into the [what I would call] Mock Tudor, former Warwickshire Furniture, rear top building, and Nash's own description of the correct lower building as 'Tudor' is not helpful. Right then. Now those figures from the Majestic Canopy....?

Right then. Now those figures from the Majestic Canopy....? I would tend to agree - Leodis often does get things wrong, which is not a surprise or a negative comment as they are entering vast amounts of data and a lot of the people entering it (understadably) were not around at the time. (Not that I was either!)On the face of it it looks like it's all one building and the mock tudor would effectively fit in with the surroundings of St Johns Church, and the area. It's only when you look at the photos and maps you realise that the buildings before the current ones were not that old in themselves. So Nash's own description whilst incorrct is understandable given the nature and appearance of the building/ immediate area. The Majestyk/ Majestic canopy figures I can't help with - though did I hear that there were some statues from somewhere at Temple Newsham stored in a barn somewhere or were they from somewhere else?

'The Majestyk/ Majestic canopy figures I can't help with - though did I hear that there were some statues from somewhere at Temple Newsham stored in a barn somewhere or were they from somewhere else?'The ones at Temple Newsam rather predate the Majestic ones, being originally part of the of Royal Exchange House.

Geordie has been looking for her ladies for some time now, strange how they seem to have spirite away into thin air, but then, one of the other mentioned statues has ended up in Gledhow!
