I say street with no name but apparently it's just a sort of continuation of New Briggate. I'm talking about the street to the rear of Merrion Street where the back of Nash's is. Nash's was originally on Park Lane, site of the courts but moved to Merrion Street in 1963. Did it always have entrances on both the rear street and on Merrion Street? I recall that the base of the mock Tudor frontage used to house shops but now Nash's has the whole lot. Also, presumably the photographer here:http://www.leodis.org/display.aspx?reso ... LAY=FULLis standing on the rear street. Leodis has it as Warwickshire furniture store. Was it built for them? How long has it been standing?

Bit of searching reveals we've talked about this beforehttp://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messages.aspx ... ID=1732But I hope the thread might be of interest in regard to Nash's itself.

Nash's? Am I wrong in thinking they had a three floored fish restaurant in New Briggate. just a little higher up from the Odeon? If not, can anyone jog my memory as to what I'm thinking of? I'm in the late 50's/early 60's, it was almost opposite Lewis's side entrance and I think it became a Chinese restaurant.

I like that "street with no name". This photo (taken on January 7 2012) shows a 'New Briggate Nos 51A B C & D' road sign that is there to identify the premises on that very short extension of New Briggate. I think part of the rear of Nash's is on the left. I hope you do not mind me adding this photo to your thread Geordie-exile.

And there used to be a reservoir just over the road.

That side is the Chip shop,at the back of the shop are the stairs up to the restaurant. I haven't seen the chip shop in use for ages.

On the 1815 map the small group of buildings of which the present Nash's is a part of is called St John's Place. At that time there was no Merrion Street just acres of fields to the north.Regards.
