YupGood nature reserve really. Folks don't tend to visit lest they have to.Closest I've ever been to a Mistle Thrush in full song. Fox a regular visitor (though I have to question their motives..)Ethel I do find scary. Sort of expect something to happen ( or is that the Special Brew working)

May as well add the info, it is a magnificent memorial.Image shows the memorial to Sam Wilson, born 16th January 1851, and died 13th December 1918. It stands in Lawnswood Cemetery off the West Side of Otley Road, and is the work of E. Caldwell Spruce. A bronze angel holds a torch aloft mounted on the top of of the black marble plinth. On the left is the shrouded figure of 'Faith' holding a book and crucifix. To the right is 'Benevolence', a kneeling female figure bearing a cross and cup. Above the inscription in the centre is a plaque with symbols of death and mourning in relief. Samuel Wilson J.P. of Rutland Lodge, Potternewton was chairman of Joshua Wilson & Sons, worsted coating manufacturers of Bean Ing Mills, Wellington Street. He was involved with the City Art Gallery during his life-time. He bequeathed all his paintings, porcelain, bronzes and furniture to the City of Leeds on the death of his wife, Ann. Sam Wilson also willed £100 to the Headingley-cum-Burley Burial Board for the upkeep of this Grade II monument.

Used to go often as a lot of the family are there tho not in the old part. Always made a point of visiting the old monuments. Ethel was very short (if the size is true to her height). Mind you, I'm 5' 10" so I tower over most people.

Here's Ethel if anyone doesn't know who were talking about.Every time I've passed she is always holding a fresh red rose!Postcard showing the grave and memorial to Ethel Preston situated in Lawnswood Cemetery. This grade II listed structure, dating from 1911, is of Italian marble and features a life-size statue standing under a classical porch, in front of partially open black marble doors, holding a bunch of flowers. Ethel Preston, who died on 24th March 1911 aged 50 years, was the wife of Walter Preston of The Grange, Beeston. The memorial is reputed to be a replica of the entrance to The Grange which has since been demolished.
