Surely the artist (or anyone else) stood back to look at the original sculpture before it was (very expensively) cast, and thought, "The hands are rubbish, his head's way too big and cartoony, his legs are too small, and the general posture is as un-dynamic as possible." A complete waste of bronze.

Apparently it was originally to stand on a tall pedestal and something to do with perspective means you distort the upper part to make it look 'right' to someone looking up at it. Then they put it ona 1ft plinth and got the spawn of the Krankies. Michaelangelo's David has huge hands and everyone thinks that's great.
