I love how these Secret Leeds threads sometimes go wildly off topic at times. Once the old memories come flooding back that's it.We started off with Jogons literary art piece and ended up with Crackerjack!

phill's pic may have answered this, perhaps Caron 'on the money' with tax.I think the former Pay Office is now the Lending Library. Seen mention of the glazed screen and "the stone roundel above depicting the tax collector" both by J.W. Appleyard. In this "Citizens in medieval dress queue to pay, overlooked by Leeds' protective owl".

Your comments about his dog etc had me close to tears so, yes you wonit.You deserve a badge and they look like this (see lapel in pic)

I took this rather vertiginous photo today (April 29 2012). It shows a view looking down onto the area where the 'What & Where?' object is, with that being on the left (the Calverley Street access/egress to the Central Reference Library is through the doors on the right).
