I had to go to there in about 1955 for some urgent treatment to stop some slight but continual bleeding after having had some teeth removed. I still recall having cotton wool balls put into my mouth over the bleeding parts and was kept in overnight to check that the blood had stopped bleeding.

The Dispensary later provided some of the casualty services for Leeds and housed out-patient clinics until these services were consolidated at St James and the LGI, having first being established elsewhere around 1824 to provide a free 'public' hospital service to provide care for people unable to afford medical treatment. The building was finally bought by The Centre for Deaf & Blind people in 1975-76 I think it was and, remains in use for this purpose today.

I seem to remember going to the dispensary with cuts and gazes to be cleaned with alcohol and rough gauze then splashed with Jensen Violet ...ouch
Is it me or has Leeds gone mad

I've been puzzled by this bit of wall for a while. It's a lump oc conrete with quite a highquality decorative finish. I assume it belonged to whatever occupied the site in the past.http://g.co/maps/3wzde

I'd often wondered about North Street but clearly the stone is recycled as all along as has been mentioned used to be shops.http://www.flickr.com/photos/cliffordst ... 3636461Has some fantastic photos. I would love to know where cliffordstead gets them from. This is not a million miles away from the wall Leodian initially referred to.In fact if you look facing up Grafton Street towards Lovell Park Road (Camp Road as was) on the left side of the street is now a grass lump. This used to be houses, backing onto the Recreation Ground.Look at http://g.co/maps/qdxbsThat shows a low wall to the left that cannot be original?

The low wall on North Street at Lovell Park has some interesting stone blocks at its entry/exit points. This photo (taken October 7 2011) shows one set. The blocks look large enough to possibly have had something on top at one time but I have not been able to find any photos to confirm if that is correct. I have in fact not been able to find any old photos that show that wall at Lovell Park (Grafton Park at one time) so I do not know how old it is.

A photo (taken October 7 2011) showing the other set of blocks (these are nearer to the start of North Street from New Briggate).

1908 map of the rec. It shows three entrances on North Street, and the buildings along Gradfton Street and Brunswick Place bordering the park.If Leodian's large stone blocks coincide with the entrances, then they are probably the bases of the original gate posts, IMHO.Interestingly, the path layout remains the same to this day.
