Even at 159 she would though have still not been as old as Henry Jenkins who claimed to be 169 and have lived at Bolton-in-Swale between 1500 to 1670 and thus the oldest Yorkshire person (and very probably ever in the World)!

the operative word being 'claimed'. he probably lived to around 95 to 100- a great age at that time and long beyond all his contemporaries and even the majority of the generation below him. thus no-one around could contradict him when he claimed to be older
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

As a follow-on from my post of October 18 2010 that has an image I took that day of the entry/exit door to what was once the Bay Horse Hotel yard I have attached a photo that I took today (Nov 15 2010). The Indian chief is part of a display of photographs concerning the possible environmental effects of the extraction of tar sands in Canada. The photo shows something old (the stone work sign over the door) and something new (the Indian chief). I thought it may be of interest, so please accept my apologies to anyone that thinks it is not.

The chief in Leodian's picture looks uncannily like the chief in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" to me.

I never saw that film so I've just looked it up in the Internet Movie Database in which it states "Will Sampson, who plays Chief Bromden, was a park ranger in Oregon in a park near where the movie was filmed. He was selected for the part because he was the only Native American the Casting Department could find who matched the character's incredible size".

Interesting to read this and see the pictures. I am looking into my family tree and in the 1851 census my ancestors are shown as living at 8 Bay Horse Yard.I will have to search it out when I am next in Leeds.

Hi drapesy The building is three storeys high this is a good indicater that it could be Georgian. The windows, if original, could be early victorian. Its certainly within a 30-40 year window (like that eh eh?)of late Georgian and the early Victorian. The bricks appear similar to those in Crown Court,is our very own brick expert Si watching? The lintels also point to a Georgian era.

[quotenick="drapesy"][quotenick="Leodian"]As a follow-on from my something old something new something borrowed something blue [quote](You've got me humming that timeless tune).I was in lower Briggate this week and think I saw the (no access) yard which contains an at risk old building. There is faint lettering above the former entrance "Lamberts Arcade" and its twixt 163/164 Lower Briggate.    [see pic]
