just received a letter from network rail informing me that because i live near the signal box there will night time construction of new sidings and the demolition of the signal box.anybody wanting photos of the signal box better get down soon.it is one of the few old traditional boxes left.

When I was much younger I caught the train into Leeds from Horsforth for ten years or so and saw the signal box every morning with the operator's car parked alongside. I'd occasionally daydream that I worked there instead of having to catch an overcrowded, smoky and usually late train each day into the City.Doesn't the box have some sort of listed status? It ought to have as it would be sad to see it demolished.JD

anybody wanting photos of the signal box better get down soon.Been there, done that today.Also the next box towards Harrogate "Rigton Crossing" is due for closure and demolition.

I took a few (bad) pictures today and hopefully will try to get some better ones tomorrow. I spoke to a guy from Network Rail (I think that's what it's called) when I was there and he told me he didn't expect the box to go until September. I suspect there will be a fair few people popping down to take pictures before it goes.

Ah, tha went on 't' lower field did thee...Nice shot, if you walk the other way and the gate's open I ink the nice man may let you take a photo of the other side too -- I only got a long shot with a telephoto because I forgot to ask him whether I could.I think I need a few from the oposite platform also.

HORSFORTH BOX AND THE OLD SIDINGS

Slightly away from the topic but pertinent to the Horsforth Box - an amusing incident occurred this evening as I was looking out of my balcony onto Headingley Station. A 125 HST train was crawling through Headingley, literally at walking pace, I thought this rather strange - it was the London - Harrogate train which normally makes a very impressive sight as it hurtles through. Puzzled I had a look at the timetable and all became clear. The HST should have left Leeds at 1959 but was just over half an hour late and was therefore being "baulked" by the 2033 DMU and will presumably have had to follow it all the way to Harrogate. With an hourly evening service its very rare for us to experience "bunching" on this line !! I was also surprised to note that the HST is shown in the timetable as departing Leeds at 1959 so presumably you can board at Leeds for a swift trip to Harrogate normally.
