On page 34 of the April 2012 issue of The Yorkshire Dalesman there is an article about the meaning of the name of the Three Hulats pub that is said to be in Chapel Allerton. In the article it states "A 'hulat' is a localised nickname for a young owl bird (as in owlet), possibly from the middle English". Not being a pub goer I've not however heard of the Three Hulats nor of a hulat!

Having Googled hulat, it seems that in days of old the local landowners in the area were the Saviles, and their coat of arms (above) features three owls, or hulats. Hulat may be a heraldic word for owl, like martlet, meaning a swallow.

I hope not to risk any copyright problem by quoting too much but in the article it states the pub name is "a nod toward a noble family name with local associations. It could so easily have been called the Mexborough Arms, or the Pollington, but instead it is named after the device on the heraldic symbols adopted by the Savile's, which are a trio of hulats". There is much more in the article, including that the pub had been a coaching inn and was also once known as the Bowling Green.
