Trig Points in Leeds

I've been having a look at a website that lists all the Trig points in the UK. People visit / photograph the trig points and leave comments. I was surprised to discover there was a trig point right behind the flats where I live, but when I went to have a look it seems to have gone, its either been demolished or removed, probably without the consent of the ordnance survey department. I know there is a trig point in someones front garden on the Leeds Bradford Road at Bramley, sort of opposite The Acorn pub.

Trig points? Is that like geocaching for people with cameras ?

Incidentally, there is a nice Bench Mark immediately on the left of the bridge on Stairfoot Lane coming from Alwoodley.

philldyeah that's my fave up stairfoot - in fact I cycled past it yesterday after Lawnswood>headingley>meanwood>buslingthorpe lne>stonegate rd>scotland mill lane>7 arches>king lane>stairfoot>home.there's one out landlocked somewhere oppo the Pub at eccup but cba to view it.Scott Hall rd near chip shops/sports centre too.Fascinating mathematical history to them

The most obvious Trig Point that I know of is that in the central reservation of Scott Hall Road by the football fields. Edit added around 23:30. Oops, sorry Jogon. That will be the Trig Point you are refering to in your post above though for some reason I never spotted it in your post until just now!Edit PS. The landlocked one you mention will presumably be that at Bowshaw's Ash. It is however many years since I last walked there but I assume the Trig Point is still there.

I can remember a trig point on Harthill in Gildersome, the views over Leeds are fantastic from there as you can see the whole city centre to the north. Another well known one is just to the side of the Billing in Rawdon. I think you're supposed to be able to see at least two, or it might be 3 other trig points from each one. A lot of them are quite sadly neglected now.

I would think trig points are largely redundant now, because of more advanced cartography technology (GPS etc.)
