I stand to be corrected but the railway has never been closer and it isn't even as close to the old Beeston Station which I suspect had been closed before the building that currently houses the whistlestop was built. I know not whether the current Whistlestop replaced an older incarnation. The Whistlestop replaced - wait for it - the Railway, which was situated across the other side of Town Street. Nothing has yet been built where the old pub stood. It was run professionally for many years by the Leeds United stalwart Harold Williams, who got an even better 'gig' when the Railway was demolished by taking over at the Griffin Head in Gildersome. That pub is very popular. If that ever goes down it will be official. The local pub will really be under threat! This refers.......http://www.thirkersleeds.co.uk/styled-2/index.html

Following on from my post about the demise of the Railway (pub) at Beeston, I found some great old photographs at the link shown below. Not of the pub though. The narrative details some of the rail history of the track between the City Centre and onwards to and from Beeston. There is even a photograph of Leeds United Juniors in 1962, with the obligatory steam train in the background. Some of the seasoned campaigners on here will already be aware of these I am sure, but just in case, here is the link.....http://www.davidheyscollection.com/page6.html

I have found that the link as it currently is does not work, but it does if the 'l' in the 'html' is removed. I hope you do mind me mentioning this.
